Vinyl Upholstery

This blog will quickly lay out the materials you may need if you want to try your hand at a do-it-yourself vinyl upholstery project with marine grade vinyl on your boat! All Vinyl Fabrics will have the marine grade vinyl you need, in most any color you can think of.
You’ll need a basic sewing machine to stitch everything together. What is that “everything,” you’ll need, though? Here’s a quick overview: Marine Grade Vinyl, of course; marine thread; 16 or 18 gauge ball point needles; pre-made cording; foam for the insides of the seats; plywood for the bases; stainless steel staples and staple gun; paint for your plywood; a circular saw (to cut the plywood); a sander (for sanding and smoothing the wood); an electric carving knife, so you can cut the foam for the seats; scissors to cut your marine vinyl; a tape measure; double-sided tape; and finally a zipper foot for your sewing machine. There may be more, depending on your project and desires. These are the basic supplies, however, and you can use your creativity to fill in the details!
Marine grade vinyl is not the only “marine grade” material that is out there. The plywood you use should also be of a marine grade, as well as the thread, which was mentioned above. Marine grade plywood could be many types of softwood glued together with waterproof glue. You need to keep in mind that marine grade plywood is actually not treated with anything, so if it isn’t kept dry, it will rot. This makes painting even more essential. The waterproof glue is what makes the wood marine grade. There are very few spaces within the layers of wood, which gives great strength for structural aspects of boats. As with the plywood, All Vinyl Fabrics’ marine grade vinyl provides extra durability.
If have these items and want to give it a go, feel free to get ideas on All Vinyl Fabrics.com and get yourself into gear!
